THE BLUE BAZAAR

If you have not seen us during the matriculation fair in 2009, 2010, 2011,
visit our website at http://www.nusnpcc.org/

NUS NPCC, together with our sister unit NTU NPCC, form the 2 tertiary units in Singapore, where undergraduates take up the role of Honorary Officers (HOs). Over the past 30 years, NUS NPCC have welcomed undergraduates, both with or without NPCC background, in our midsts who have epitomised our unit motto over their course of study, that is to lead, to challenge, to make a difference.

What do we have to offer?

Unknown to many, we have actually a good mixture of undergraduates amongst us - Science, Engineering, Arts, Business (Accountancy), Nursing and Law, with a number who are recipients of scholarships from SPF, MOE and NUS.

Of which, HOs undertake activities at 3 main levels, namely at NUS NPCC as a CCA, at NPCC HQ as coordinators for key training programmes, and at our attached secondary school as a mentor for the cadets. This also means that NUS NPCC is a highly flexible CCA where you can choose to partake in your preferred activities, as long as you clear the minimum requirements, which is not difficult to clear at all.

At NUS NPCC, like all other clubs and societies, we have our CCA activities such as recruitment drive, retreats, orientation, bazaar, air rifle shooting championships, annual general meeting and games day. Also, there are 8 major portfolios under the EXCO, which include the Executive, Admin, Finance, Training, Functions, Deployment, Projects and Publicity Officers. So play to your strengths/interests! If you like to deal with money, take up the Finance portfolio. If you enjoy planning for events, take up the functions or projects portfolio! If you wish to dabble with more involvements, you can also be part of the organising commitees for unit events such as the NUS Air Rifle Shooting Championships and Leadership and Mentoring Skills Course.

At HQ level, we undertake 2 major training activities, namely 1 for all sec 3s cadets and 1 for the new batch of HOs. You can say that its similar to planning for our Faculty Orientation Projects, where we come up with the programme, manpower, resources etc, followed by the execution phase. Of course HQ also organises other activities such as the .22 and .38 Revolver Shooting Competitions, High Elements Instructors Course, Power Boat Driver's Course, Kayaking Course etc which we can choose to participate in. Sounds like we have the best of all worlds eh?

At our attached school level, we serve as a mentor for the cadets in their training activities, with an emphasis on soft skills rather than hard skills. In fact, we have seen officers without NPCC background (and those with background of course) who played a huge role in bringing their respective school units up to a higher level. However, the commitment will be largely based on our semester timetable. Some officers plan their timetable to fit the unit's training, some help out in other ways when timetable unfortunately clash. The emphasis will always be that the officers' studies come first.

Last but not least, we welcome everyone who have a passion to work with youths, enjoys working as a team player and more importantly is willing to lead, challenge and make a difference. So whether you are a year 1, 2 or 3 (honours), join us and be part of the NUS NPCC family!

WELCOME TEA 2011

ANNUAL RECRUITMENT DRIVE 2011

Formed in 1959, the first National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) unit was set up on an experimental basis. The corps grew over the years and till date, it has a membership of more than 20 000, making it the largest Uniformed Group in Singapore.
There are about 158 Secondary School NPCC Units grouped in 20 Areas, as well as 4 Open Units in Tertiary Institutions. The NPCC Headquarters is situated in the Home Team Academy Compound along Old Choa Chu Kang Road.

Some of you might ask the question, "I thought National Police Cadet Corps is for Secondary Schools? How come NUS also has a unit? And what do you do as an Honorary Officer in NPCC? "

The answer is:
NUS NPCC is one of the four open units under NPCC HQ. Led by H/DSP Stephan Phua, Officer Commanding Of NUS NPCC, the unit is formed up by Honorary Officers (HO) from NUS. Unlike our counterparts in Secondary Schools, we DO NOT perform drills or practice camp craft on campus.

What do we do?
At open unit level, the HOs will be involved in various projects and initiatives like Air Rifle Shooting Competition, Leadership and Mentoring Skill Course, Honorary Officers’ Basic Training Course and more.

At the HQ level, Honorary Officers are given the opportunity to assist in major functions and various large scale competitions. In addition, each HO will also be attached to a secondary school unit, of which they will assist the Teacher Officers in the smooth running of the unit.

Hmm..
Having second thoughts after learning about the commitments?

Don’t worry! NUS NPCC is not all just about work. FUN events like chalet, Games Day and HO night are held annually to bond fellow members together. We also work closely with our NTU counterpart, thus providing a platform for exchanging of ideas and forging of friendships with NTU.

We worked hard, we played hard. Strong friendships were formed and invaluable experiences were gained.

So.. Why Wait?!
Come and be part of our big family and we promise you a memorable experience in your university life!
